I loooooooooove dimsum and I love Lugang Cafe’s hakaw and xiaolong bao. Kaya naman nung narinig ko na meron silang unli dimsum ay hindi talaga ako nagpahuli.
This was around September last year.
Me and my sis dined at their SM North branch. Initially, we were just going to buy a new phone pero you know, pag nagmall ka, most likely kakain ka rin kasi nakakagutom. Lol.
So, yun nga. Kumain kami sa Lugang cafe. Super excited pa kami kasi nga I was raving about their xiao long bao tapos unli pa. Imagine getting all those xiao long bao goodness for P300 lang. Super sulit diba?
Since unli dimsum lang naman ang deal, we weren’t expecting other dishes aside from dimsum pero meron daw silang pancit canton. Oh why not, let’s try.
It doesn’t taste anything like pancit canton. Para syang hoisin sauce na nilagay sa bihon tapos may toppings na pork with one strip of carrot sa gilid. Naligaw yata. Anyway, di ko sya nagustuhan.
My sister didn’t even finish her plate and the attendant warned us that we’re going to pay for leftover. We said we’re just gonna pay because we didn’t like it. They didn’t charge us naman, thankfully.
On to the star of the buffet, the glorious xiaolong bao.
Looks glorious, huh. I thought so, too. It was gummy. It wasn’t even hot and tasted like ginger broth. I was like, wtf what happened?! It didn’t taste like their original recipe. Somehow, they downgraded the flavors to make it affordable but I think it’s bad marketing. Price is one but the experience is a whole lot different.
Very much disappointed. We paid for 600 for two plates of pancit canton and a serving of this xiaolong bao. Nothing else. It wasn’t good. 😦
Haven’t been to Lugang Cafe ever since. It used to be my favorite dimsum place. Guess I’ll have to stick with Binondo’s Dong Bei Dumplings.
@LugangCafe, please do not compromise the authenticity of your dishes for quick bucks. It’s never worth it. I’d rather pay for the glorious xiaolongbao than your unli dimsum for P300.
It was a sad day but I moved on.
